On the 23d of October 2013 DTL organised a workshop on Next Generation Life Science (NGLS) at the ‘In de Driehoek’ conference centre in Utrecht. Over 70 people representing research groups from various life science sectors participated in a lively meeting, with interesting lectures and break-out discussion sessions.
Lectures were given by Alain van Gool (RU), Robert Hall (WUR), Bas Teusink (VU) and Lude Franke (RUG) with Dorus Gadella (UvA) closing the meeting. Each lecture focused on Next Generation Life Sciences from specific angles such as the cross technology aspects or the ‘big data’ challenges.
One of the key discussion points was what should be done from a life science technology perspective in the area of NGLS in the coming five years and what role DTL should play in this. One of the main conclusions is that closer collaboration and the need for common solutions and approaches are widely seen as very important in years to come.
