Now open: call for proposals in the ZonMw/NWO Enabling Technologies Hotels programme

DTL and ZonMw/NWO announce that a second call of the ZonMw programme Enabling Technologies Hotels is now open until January 15, 2015. This programme aspires to give researchers in public-private partnerships (the ‘guests’) access to high-end infrastructures within public research organisations (the ‘technology hotels’).

The first call in 2013 resulted in 99 project proposals, of which 35 have been granted. “Technology hotels typically offer help in the design of complex, often multitechnology experiments, provide support in data analysis, data integration and/or modeling, and assistance with the biological interpretation of the experimental data”, explains Merlijn van Rijswijk, manager of the DTL Technology programme. “It is cost-efficient to open up high-end facilities to external collaborators. A new feature of the second call is that Enabling Technologies Hotels “booster” projects can be at the basis of larger new grant applications, for instance Horizon2020, STW, and NWO/ZonMw.” The second call differs slightly from the previous. The budget for projects will go up from € 20.000 to € 30.000, but the data integration bonus (max € 10.000) will not return. All proposals will need to have a data management section though. This procedure intends to ensure that ZonMw funded projects will yield data collections that are searchable, accessible, interoperable, and stored in a sustainable manner. Furthermore, the selection committee will be more critical towards projects originating from one organisation; it will need to be clearly motivated why additional budget is necessary.
