ZonMw & NWO have opened the 5th funding call in the framework of the ‘Enabling Technologies Hotels’ (ETH) program that is run in close collaboration with DTL. Scientists from a Dutch public research organization within Life Sciences and Health (LSH), Agri & Food and Horticulture & Starting Materials can apply for funding to get access to advanced life sciences technologies and expertise of over 120 public and private Technology Hotels. The deadline for applications is 1 October 2019, at 2pm (14:00).
The aim of ‘Enabling Technologies Hotels’ is to foster long-lasting collaboration between researchers who do not have access to high-end technologies (the guests) and operators of a service-oriented facility (the hotel). Such hotel guests not only obtain access to advanced technologies, but also to expertise and infrastructure. With such, the active application of data integration principles, methods and standards (data stewardship), as well as open access publishing of data is strongly encouraged. Support can be requested to access the following high-end technology areas:
Support can be requested to access the following high-end technology areas:
- Bioinformatics, Computational and Systems Biology
- Genomics (incl. Next Generation Sequencing approaches)
- Proteomics & Structural Biology
- Metabolomics
- Bioimaging & Phenotyping (incl. Advanced Microscopy and Medical Imaging)
Overall, a budget of 1,1M Euro is available and the maximum funding that can be requested per hotel project is €30,000. The Hotel project has a fixed duration of 12 months. A company (co-applicant, not the Hotel) has to co-fund minimally 10% of the requested ZonMw subsidy in cash and or in kind.
‘Enabling Technologies Hotels’ are also embedded in regular calls
Both ZonMW and NWO are also piloting an ETH call embedded into their regular calls. Currently, the calls ‘Green III’, addressing a change to the existing agricultural system, and ‘Photosynthesis’, engaged in the genetics and physiology of photosynthesis in higher plants, are still open. The deadline for ‘Green III’ is 4 July 2019 and for ‘Photosynthesis’ 19 September 2019. In the future, researchers will likely have more opportunities to apply for technology Hotels embedded into larger calls by ZonMw and NWO.
