FAIR: Putting machine readability first

Barend Mons recently gave an interview about the FAIR principles and the GO FAIR initiative in the journal e-Data & Research. “The way science currently deals with the huge amounts of research data has to change. If you receive tax money for your research, you should take care of the data that you produce and facilitate reuse by others. The FAIR… Continue reading

Rare disease Summer School & BYOD: a report

In September 2017, the ELIXIR Rare Disease Use Case organised an International Summer School on Rare Disease and Orphan Drug Registries and a Bring Your Own Data workshop. The two events were organised and hosted by the National Centre for Rare Diseases – Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome. The organisation was supported by several organisations, including DTL and ELIXIR-NL. Read… Continue reading

Integrating data to learn more

Phys.org recently published an interview with Katy Wolstencroft. She is an assistant professor in bioinformatics and computer science at Leiden University and an active contributor in DTL and ELIXIR-NL. “Tremendous amounts of data are generated in scientific research each day. Most of this data has more potential than we are using now. We just need to integrate and manage it better,”… Continue reading

Towards an international research data infrastructure for biodiversity and ecology studies

For centuries, scientists all over the world have established enormous collections of animals, plants, microbes, fossils, minerals, and rocks. The data associated with these specimens can help researchers understand life on earth, counter biodiversity loss, and contribute to a sustainable future. However, to arrive at new scientific insights and solutions for environmental problems, researchers should integrate data from various sources.… Continue reading
