SURF is a cooperative association in which research universities, universities of applied sciences, vocational schools, university medical centres, and research institutions work together to provide the best IT for education and research. We develop and provide reliable, state-of-the-art IT services, or purchase them centrally on favourable conditions. We collaborate on new, innovative applications of IT in education and research. And we come together to exchange knowledge, ideas and expertise. This keeps Dutch education and research at the top of the world.

Much of today’s research requires high-quality IT infrastructures. Computing power for complex models (such as blood flow), powerful platforms for the analysis and storage of unstructured data sets containing billions of data points, or virtual workspaces for scientific collaboration. SURF offers a comprehensive package of services and state-of-the-art technologies for all researchers.
Collaboration & innovation
Within the SURF cooperative, universities, universities of applied sciences, research institutions and university medical centres work together on IT facilities and IT innovation. As a result, students, teachers, researchers and other staff have access to the best IT facilities for top-level research and talent development under favourable conditions. We work together to acquire or develop the best possible digital services, and to encourage knowledge sharing through continuous innovation.
