Katy Wolstencroft is an Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics at the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS http://www.liacs.nl/) and the Leiden Centre of Data Science (http://lcds.science.leidenuniv.nl/lcds). Dr Wolstencroft’s research is primarily in data and knowledge integration in the Life Sciences. Her interests lie in developing methodologies for exploiting computer science technologies, such as scientific workflows and the semantic web, for managing and analyzing biological data. Before joining LIACS, she was a post-Doctoral Research Fellow and bioinformatics team leader for the myGrid/Taverna e-Science Consortium at the University of Manchester. Her research involved the development of workflows in functional genomics and systems biology, and foundational computer science research on semantic service discovery, semantic data integration and ontological classification. She was also a co-investigator in the European SysMO-DB initiative, which developed strategies and software for exchanging and managing systems biology data and models. The SEEK platform, developed in this work, is now central to the FAIRDOM project. FAIRDOM provides a European-wide facility for sharing and publishing FAIR systems biology research assets, the FAIRDOMHub.
