BaseClear is an accredited service laboratory for DNA-based research and analysis. We perform a wide range of routine DNA tests in Life Sciences but also serve a wide range of genomics customers using state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. Our building is located at Leiden Bio Science Park and hosts a continuously growing team of more than 60 employees. Over almost 25 years we have built a large international clientele by our hard work and enthusiasm. BaseClear aims to continuously expand its service package with a growing role for NGS and bioinformatics services.

For our growing Bioinformatics department, we are currently looking for enthusiastic and motivated candidates for the function of:

BIOINFORMATICIAN

Function:
The candidate, who will report to Director Bioinformatics, will be responsible for the management and analysis of standardized (meta)genome and transcriptome sequencing projects. In addition, the candidate will perform the analysis of custom microbial genomics projects where focus will be given on developing these into new commercial services. This latter task will be defined in close collaboration with the R&D team. He/she will work as a part of a highly motivated team of scientists and technicians.

We are looking for:
A highly driven and results-orientated candidate with preferably 2 years of bioinformatics work experience in Bioinformatics who lives in the Leiden area and wants to work full-time (40 h/week). Excellent knowledge of Python and in-depth knowledge of NGS technologies are essential. Additional experience of microbial genomics, Perl, R, Docker containers, NextFlow, the scrum/agile framework, as well as an understanding of laboratory management and quality systems are of benefit. The candidate should have a commercial attitude supported with perfect communication and presentation skills. The successful candidate must be able to work well both independently and within a team and be able to meet strict deadlines.

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics with demonstrable bioinformatics, programming and DNA sequence analysis experience.
