ELIXIR-NL participating at the ELIXIR All Hands 2020

Lots of participants from ELIXIR-NL are present at the virtual All hands meeting from ELIXIR starting today June 8-10th. Evangelia A. Papoutsoglou presents ‘Building upon an existing standard for better plant phenomics data FAIRness’ and Egon Willighagen ‘ELIXIR and Toxicology: a community in development’.  In the mini-symposium FAIRification for knowledge management, Celia van Gelder is presenting the terms4FAIRskills initiative. Furthermore… Continue reading

ELIXIR’s FAIR Training working group published a paper in PLoS Computational Biology – ‘10 Simple Rules for Making training materials FAIR.’

Imagine you’d want to produce a new bioinformatics training course or update an existing one.  However, appropriate materials are scattered across different repositories, siloed in their home institutions and/or lack the metadata required to re(use) them. This is a classical problem which can be tackled by FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) principles. The ELIXIR working group on FAIR training… Continue reading

ELIXIR launches new EU Project — Beyond One Million Genomes (B1MG)

ELIXIR kicked off the Beyond One Million Genomes (B1MG) project which is funded by Horizon 2020.  22 signatory countries are working together to ensure that the declaration of cooperation ‘Towards access to at least 1 million sequenced genomes in the EU by 2022’ (also known as the ‘1+ Million Genomes’ initiative (1+MG)) will become reality.  This will ultimately improve disease… Continue reading

ELIXIR facilitates development of comprehensive disease map for COVID-19

In an international effort to organise the molecular processes underlying the SARS-CoV-2 virus-host interactions in COVID-19, 196 contributors from 31 countries have created a visual exploration and analytics tool. This resource will improve researchers’ understanding of COVID-19 and speed up the development of efficient diagnostics and therapies. It will also facilitate collaboration between clinicians, virologists or computational biologists in developing… Continue reading

Dutch public universities can now apply for funding to establish or advance locally based Digital Competence Centres

In the era of extensive digital output of science and the movement towards Open Science, applicable (international, domain specific) standards such as driven by the FAIR Data Principles are crucial. Research software should be sustainable, maintained and shared, and researchers should be able to use and rely on state-of-the-art infrastructure, such as calculating storage facilities and data/software repositories. However, the… Continue reading

Nominate data for the Dutch Data Prize

Are you a researcher or know someone with a dataset who’s eligible for the Dutch Data Prize? Nominations can be made until 1 Juni 2020. To be eligible the data needs to be in a ‘trustworthy digital repository’; open access available, or the documentation of the dataset explains why this is not possible and under which conditions interested parties can… Continue reading
