Hotel Description

USEQ: Your partner for Next Generation Sequencing-based experiments

The Utrecht Sequencing Facility (USEQ) is a research infrastructure that provides support for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) based research. We aim to stimulate efficient research and innovation by sharing expertise and providing access to NGS technology. We strive to increase knowledge transfer, enable stronger interactions, and optimize the use of resources. Embedded within an active research environment, we support collaborations to achieve scientific excellence.

We provide support for a broad range of services, including NGS, sample preparation, DNA/RNA isolation, SNP fingerprinting, basic data analysis. A comprehensive state-of-the-art infrastructure is available, including NGS sequencers, liquid handling robotics, bioinformatics tools and ICT. Currently we operate four Illumina sequencing platforms: NextSeq500, HiSeq2500, MiSeq and MiniSeq. In addition, we provide access to the newest sequencing platforms through our collaborators: Oxford Nanopore for long read sequencing applications, and Illumina HiSeq X Ten for human whole genome sequencing.

Expertise and Track Record

43500984089 The novel application of RNA-tomography to study spatially defined waves in the transcriptome of nematode-infected roots of Arabidopsis thaliana with J. Lozano Torres (Wageningen University). 43500984087 Identification of polyploidy regulators by RNA tomography and single-cell sequencing with M. Galli (Hubrecht Institute)

USEQ us unique in the fact that we operate as a network facility. We have a core group of equipment and gain access to other specialized machines and expertise around the campus for our users. This maximizes our resources, avoids duplication of equipment purchase and maintenance, and facilitates collaboration between researchers.

Every week we hold a consulting hour on Friday afternoon. Email us to book a slot and we will make sure that our full team is available. In addition, colleagues from the UMCU Bioinformatics Expertise Core (www.UBEC.nl) attend the consult as well. If we need additional expertise, we make sure to find the right people.

USEQ is involved in several cross-technological projects, to list a few:

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) Dream Team project dedicated to developing new tools and technologies for preclinical drug testing and analysis

the Netherlands X-omics Initiative that bundles molecular technologies to enable ground-breaking biological and medical science to map molecular mechanisms of health and disease

USEQ is part of the MERIL (Mapping of the European Research Infrastructure Landscape) portal that provides access to a database that stores information about openly accessible research infrastructures in Europe, across all scientific domains.
